One Less Day
April 2, 2020
The return drive home after Wednesday evening services are typically uneventful.  Recently, one Wednesday was vastly different than what I typically experience on my commute from mid-week Bible study.  The tragic experience I came upon made me ponder a few things of spiritual importance. An Overabundance of Caution
April 2, 2020

Unless you are a hermit living in the darkest recess of a cave, you have heard about the COVID-19 virus (aka Coronavirus).  Several universities, schools, churches, and business have shut down or taken steps to mitigate the potential severity of the virus.  One phrase that I have heard repeatedly is that various institutions are exercising “an overabundance of caution” to make sure that people are protected from this virus. Something Unexpected
April 2, 2020

Recently there was rather eventful day for my family.  My oldest son had been complaining with abdominal pain on Sunday, so we determined that he needed to have a visit with the pediatrician on Monday.  After a visit with the pediatrician and a blood test, it was determined that he needed to visit the emergency room at Vanderbilt for a potential appendix issue.  After an ultra sound, a physical examination, and a cat scan, it was determined that his appendix needed to be removed. Jesus Was Religious
April 2, 2020

In a postmodern society, it is not hard to hear someone say, “I accept Christ, but I am not much on organized religion.”  On one level, we understand what they might be saying.  Organized religion, in some settings at least, has perverted the message of Christ and the true definition of religious devotion to Jesus.  Thus, it is of great wonder that many have offered disparaging remarks in regard to modern, organized religion. Heteronormativity: Re-Writing What is “Normal”
February 4, 2020
One method of changing a culture to accept a sinful way of life is to redefine what is “normal.”  Most people were raised to believe in decades past that heterosexual relationships were the accepted standard of most societies. [READ MORE]

Rough Road Ahead
February 4, 2020

On I-24 going toward Clarksville between exits twenty-four and nineteen, there was an electric road sign that read “Rough Road Ahead.”  This stretch of highway has been problematic for years.  It continually washes out and needs constant patches and repairs.  Suffice to say it is a very rough road—our vehicle’s suspension and tires can attest to that fact. Stop Fornicating!
October 9, 2019
People tend to deal with the consequences and ignore the causes.  This is true in many situations that people face.  If we would avoid sin, there would be no adverse, life-changing decisions involved.  Husbands would not be contemplating divorce if they remained faithful to their wives.  The majority of women would not be seeking an abortion if the refrained from sexual activity until marriage.  People in our nation would not be spending millions of dollars in tax payer’s money to find a cure for AIDS.  Families would not be ripped apart by the consequences of rampant promiscuous behaviors.  What is the answer to all of these problems? Stop Fornicating! [READ MORE]

God Does Not Want You to be Happy
October 9, 2019
At Least Not In the Way You Might Believe!

What is your definition of happiness?  Happiness can be defined in various ways depending upon one’s focus in life.  Worldly happiness is not often consistent with God’s word or His desire for His people.  God wants His people to be happy, but His definition of happiness is very different from the happiness that worldly minded individuals expect in life.  Happiness in Christ is, at times, very unlike the typical definition of what being happy is. Be Converted
October 9, 2019
Conversion is defined as “an experience associated with the definite and decisive adoption of a religion.”[1]  Conversion was mentioned by Jesus at various points during His earthly ministry.  In Matthew 18:3 Jesus said, “…Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”  What does it mean to “be converted” to the extent of one becoming like a little child?

We All Believe the Same Thing

By:  Johnny O. Trail

We were standing in line at a “Christian” bookstore waiting to pay for a Bible that we had just purchased for our youngest son.  Then, it happened.  I heard someone say the words “church of Christ.”  I hate to admit it, but I tend to listen in on conversations when I hear people mention the Lord’s body.  Two ladies were standing in line a few people behind us and one was explaining where she was attending church and the rationale undergirding her decision. The Bumper Sticker Says It All

By:  Johnny O. Trail

It seems that most people tend to display those things that they are most convicted about on the back of their cars.  As one who reads everything, bumper stickers spark a great curiosity in me.  Many bumper stickers contain humorous and witty sayings.  Some of their messages are very good in content and design.  Other messages leave one scratching their head wondering why any reasonable person could place such garbage on a car that would have otherwise maintained its re-sale value very nicely. Offended in Christ

By:  Johnny O. Trail

Jesus knew that His followers would face persecution.  This was true of those who were living during His earthly ministry and in our age as well.  Matthew 5:10-12 says, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” [READ MORE]
